The Practitioner Preferred™ by Cedar Bear® Herbal Apothecary Program was born out of a desire to restore and bolster community-serving apothecary dispensaries across the country and beyond.
Modern-day clinical practice is busy, and we here at Cedar Bear® understand that just as much as anyone, since the owners and top tier management also come from clinical practicing backgrounds.
Before there was Cedar Bear,® the founders L. Carl Robinson, TT, CCHt, RH(AHG), a Clinical & Formulary Herbalist and CAM practitioner, who worked from a large personal herbal apothecary, and Jhoane Robinson, CKYI, CCHt, a traditional herbalist and yoga/meditation instructor, both practiced in clinical and instructional settings.
Carl’s apothecary, which predated his work with Jhoane and Cedar Bear®, at one point held over 300 single, dried herbs, many of which he had sustainably wildcrafted or had grown and harvested himself.
This apothecary has traveled with him, morphing, changing, being built upon, to the present day! So we understand the time, energy, and dedication that goes into building an herbal apothecary.
The Practitioner Preferred™ by Cedar Bear® Program herbal apothecary program has been created by practitioners, for practitioners, to ease the burden of starting from square one every step of the way. FAQs
Prior to Cedar Bear® and its founder, medicine-making of liquid herbs had typically revolved around the use of alcohol as a primary solvent and utilizing passive sorts of tincturing, macerates, or percolate methodologies. Both the alcohol and these passive processes are intrinsically and by their nature self-limiting in their extractive potentials, and yet for over a century were the standard for making liquid herbal tinctures – that is, until L. Carl Robinson, TT, CCHt, RH(AHG), who would become the founder of Cedar Bear® came along.
Carl had learned from his early chemical solvent studies that alcohol possesses denaturing and inert rendering effects on many biological components found in foods, and surmised from there that the same applied to herbs. His studies, observations, and experiences with tincturing, macerating, and percolation techniques for making liquid herbs left him with more questions than the typical answers regarding these extractive methodologies.
The more he delved into the effects of alcohol on the biological integrity of herbs and that typical tincturing methods fell short of what he felt was possible, he concluded that a new approach to making liquid herbs was needed. This is where 'Liquid Herbs Reinvented!™' began to be visualized and conceptualized.
The use of glycerin, instead of denaturing and inert rendering alcohol was the first step, but that by itself was not enough. Carl also set about developing an innovative and revolutionary liquid processing method, based of 'serialized' fluid chemistry, that cullimnated in the TincTract® process.
The combination of glycerin and the TincTract® process together resulted in a totally new and differentiated class of liquid herbal concentrates, that many insisted was not possible with herbal glycerites, but decades later have stood the test of time and use, still being unique in all the world.

Affiliation with a professional association in your field of practice is recommended but not required.
Practitioner Preferred™ Herbal Apothecary Program by Cedar Bear is available exclusively to pre-qualified practitioners, naturopaths, and doctors who are currently practicing within the holistic health field. Students and apprentices currently practicing in the holistic health field will also be considered.
